Road Trips...

Only spending 20 or 30 minutes in the car to buzz up to your local hill or BC stash is always nice. But, putting in the miles and hours of travel time, having poured over maps and inquired about “beta” from various ski forums, and taking time off work just to freeze your butt off sleeping in the back of your truck is always worth it. Maybe it’s visiting a new place, or just the adventure of skiing and being with good friends that make it such a visceral experience to any ski bum. I have a few trips mapped out for this year already, and i’m sure I will add a few more – suggestions or open couches are always welcome.
“The drive back up 395 was long. The light faded somewhere around Susanville, and gave way to an almost full moon that seemed to shine on the asphalt all the way to Oregon. Smiles cracked through chapped lips. Thoughts of returning next year were already firmly in my brain. As we pulled into Portland and the city lights drowned out the moon, I thought about all of the unexpected corners in the road of every good adventure. It isn’t always about the turns you make or how many peaks you bagged. It’s about looking back and smiling, and remembering the people you were with, and the ones you met along the way. Maybe next year I will even try the spaghetti feed.” -Ryan
